Those days we were used to listen to stories from our grand parents. They told us many stories using facial expressions and hands, there were no pictures. We could go to the world of the story with the loving voice of the grand mother or grand father. So, story telling is nothing new to us. But modern days, unfortunately grand mothers don’t tell stories. These picture books do the same thing if we read the book to a child. There is a specialty in these picture books that are published by Child's World. The pictures are drawn by very talented artists. They have shown all their talents in the pictures that cover all the pages from cover to cover. The pictures are of real natural colors with brush strokes, not in too bright abnormal flat colors. I have a nice experience with my own grand daughter. She is just three years old. Her father had bought some of the picture books of Child's World from the book exhibition at public library last month. Among them my little granddaughter likes "pambayage rahasa" (secret of the scare-crow) very much. She had got her father and mother to read the book for her, and when I go to their house, she gets me to sit in front of her and she tells me the whole story showing me the pictures, also she acts it, showing me how she dresses the scare-crow. She lives in the story during that time. This is the real value of a good picture book. The real taste of the story is conveyed to the child by these high quality pictures in the book. I wish Child's World would continue to publish this kind of picture books for the sake of our small children. |
